The 40-year-old from the Freistadt district was traveling towards Salzburg at 4:30 a.m. According to the police, he apparently overtook a semi-trailer truck on the right-hand side of the road at a very high speed and hit the guardrail and the concrete barrier several times. The car remained badly damaged on the turnoff to Wels.
There is no trace of the driver involved in the accident
When the emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident, the driver could no longer be found. Because serious injuries could not be ruled out, drones and search dogs were used to search for the 40-year-old. However, the search had to be stopped after several hours without success.
It later turned out that the man did not have a driver’s license and could therefore have left the scene of the accident. The 40-year-old was still missing on Friday evening.
