The history of the South Korean car manufacturer SsangYong could hardly be more eventful. At the beginning of 1990, Daewoo took over the company for three years, after a short independent phase, the Chinese (SAIC), then M&M and in 2022 the KG Group snapped up the SUV specialist (Korando, Rextron). At the end of 2023, the new owner dared to venture to Europe again. And will be offering the fully electric model Torres in Austrian showrooms from May.
A park as namesake
Named after the Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia (South America), the massive SUV stands out thanks to its smooth surfaces. The futuristic-looking front with the continuous LED strip expresses the design language “Powered by Toughness,” say the South Koreans. The fact is: the optics are powerful.

The developers provided a lot of space inside. In its basic position, the trunk holds an incredible 703 liters; with the storage space under the trunk floor, the volume adds up to 839 liters – an absolute top value.
A touch of sportiness
The flattened steering wheel conveys a touch of sportiness, and a flat, 12.3-inch display stretches across the width. The name: Hypervision. The cockpit screen next to it also measures 12.3 inches.
The 4.71 meter long Torres EVX is offered in two versions: Style and Premium. The price of the 1.9-ton SUV starts at 39,890 euros, the premium model at 43,190 euros. The warranty period is remarkable: seven years or 150,000 kilometers for the new car and 10 years or one million kilometers for the high-voltage battery.

The electric motor delivers a whopping 152.2 kW (207 hp) or 339 Nm. The front wheels are driven. The lithium iron phosphate battery that BYD is contributing has a capacity of 73.4 kWh. Range: 462 kilometers. The charging power is 11 kW (AC) and 145 kW (DC). Trailer load: 500 or 1500 kg
