It has been official since Friday: The dead roe deer that was discovered in Oberhofen am Irsee on April 16th of this year was killed by a wolf. Gottfried Diwold, the state’s wolf commissioner, confirmed the result of the DNA analysis. At that time, an injured pony was also found around 800 meters away. Because the owner had treated the animal’s wound, no DNA sample could provide any more information.
“It is most likely that the wolf’s saliva residue will be found at the edge of the wound. That was no longer possible in this case. However, based on the injury, it is reasonable to assume that there is a connection,” says Diwold.
It is also obvious that the animal that was photographed several times in Pfaffing last weekend is the same wolf. “Wolves are not normally visible during the day. It is unlikely that there are several in this area that are so obviously walking around during the day,” says Diwold.
The so-called suspected cracks and sightings are significantly higher this year than last year: 78 have already been reported in Upper Austria.
