The Schardenberg and Wernstein am Inn fire departments were alerted on Friday at 7:15 p.m. with the keyword “rescue people – building collapse” to the Fronberg, where the former observation tower there had collapsed. The all-clear was given on site: no one was able to reach the collapse Damage.
However, there was heavy smoke and firefighters had to fight a fire. Two feeder lines were set up by the two fire departments in order to have enough fire-fighting water available. The fire was quickly contained with five pipes, although clouds of smoke continued to rise from the pile of rubble. An excavator then began to work through the rubble field in order to get to further embers.
Used for sparking
The tower had not been available as a viewing tower for a long time, but it was used by organizations because it was very prominent and was a good position for radio transmission. Emergency organizations had previously installed technology in the tower, but this had been dismantled a long time ago.
The two fire departments were on duty with seven vehicles and 43 emergency services until 11 p.m. The fire brigades are still busy at the scene this Saturday. The cause of the collapse is being investigated by the police.
