Highly endangered and new to Linz Zoo

The Turopolje pigs were in acute danger of extinction.

Now stable population

The breed originally comes from Croatia, but the population there had shrunk to 20 to 30 animals. In 1994, five animals were brought to Austria, followed by two more boars in 2000 and 2001. With great sensitivity, the Turopolje pigs were brought into a now stable population, despite the low genetic basis. From now on, the Linz Zoo is also helping.
