Authorities in a number of counties in the US state of California have decided to restrict access to public beaches due to the death of a surfer after a shark attack in Morro Bay. On December 25, The Guardian reports.

It is noted that this death due to a shark was the first in 18 years in the region.

“Fortunately, the weather and wind ruined the surf, so there aren’t many surfers, but we have closed access to the water for safety reasons,” said Morro Bay Harbor Director Eric Endersby.

The fact that a man became a victim of a shark off the coast of the city of Morro Bay in the state of California became known on December 24. He was hospitalized with serious injuries and later died in the hospital.

The San Luis Obispo County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim and is working to notify next of kin before revealing the victim’s name.

Earlier in April, a shark attacked a surfer off the coast of Noumea, the capital of New Caledonia in the South Pacific. As a result of the attack of the predator, a 53-year-old man died. In February, a 57-year-old man was also killed in a predator attack in New Caledonia.
