The US advised the authorities to fulfill the “ultimatum” of Russia

The journalist Patrick Buchanan, in his article for The American Conservative, said that the United States authorities should agree with Russia on the points of an “ultimatum.”

These are two agreements that set out Moscow’s vision on the issue of security guarantees.

As Buchanan noted, on some issues Washington may compromise with Moscow. So, for example, in exchange for a promise not to admit Ukraine and Georgia to NATO, the States may demand any other concessions from Russia, the journalist said.

On the rest of the discussion, the United States will have to comply with the requirements of the “ultimatum”, Buchanan added.

Earlier on Saturday, a source said that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg had scheduled a meeting of the NATO-Russia Security Assurance Council for January 12.

A day earlier, on December 24, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian Federation expects to receive concrete answers from the United States in January to proposals on security guarantees. At the same time, he stressed that the United States and European countries are conducting unambiguous maneuvers and exercises in the immediate vicinity of the borders of the Russian Federation, and this cannot but cause concern on the Russian side.

On December 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the Russian Federation responded promptly and constructively to Washington’s proposals and sent its proposals on security guarantees. The President added that the American partners have declared their readiness for discussion and negotiations on security issues at the beginning of the year in Geneva.

On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. According to the agreement, NATO countries undertake to exclude Ukraine from joining the alliance and further expansion. The United States must commit to exclude further expansion of NATO to the east and refuse to admit the states that were formerly part of the USSR into the alliance.

Recently, Western media have been actively disseminating information about the alleged plans of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the concentration of troops at the borders. Moscow has more than once called such rumors “stuffing” and deliberate escalation of tension. On December 22, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the “hotheads” in Ukraine against a military conflict, stressing that Moscow does not want war.
