Drug and weapons smuggling, fraud, bodily harm, forgery of documents and serious coercion: the list of crimes for which a 22-year-old will soon have to answer before the regional court in Linz is long. The German, who lived in an apartment in Linz with his 20-year-old girlfriend, is said to have been the mastermind of an international drug network.

Living expenses financed

With his helpers, he brought a total of 86 kilograms of marijuana, 4 kilograms of cocaine, 5.6 kilograms of speed and other drugs from Spain, Andorra, Germany and Holland to Upper Austria. Part of the drug was temporarily stored in a rented hall in Leonding. The unemployed couple used the drug money to finance their living and, among other things, bought a new car so that they could carry out courier trips themselves.

Packed and shipped in Spain

The police report reads almost like the script for a Netflix drug series: For example, the Linz couple rented several apartments in Spain, where helpers professionally packaged more than 86 kilograms of marijuana. The drugs were brought to Austria via parcel service. The 22-year-old “Boss” financed the trips from Austria to Spain and back so that the packages sent could be accepted and distributed in Austria.

A Dutch transporter also brought 4.1 kilograms of cocaine into the country from the Netherlands as well as 10 kilograms of marijuana, firearms and ammunition from Spain. The man was discovered during a routine check in Passau and was arrested.

Ordered drugs on the dark web

Additional drugs, including speed, the horse anesthetic ketamine, methamphetamine, MDMA, LSD trips, heroin and XTC tablets as well as codeine, were ordered and delivered to Austria via orders from the “Darknet”. The organizer also sent drugs abroad himself and tried his hand at being a “vendor” on the dark web. The dubious flows of money, including cryptocurrencies, were uncovered by narcotics investigators from the LKA Upper Austria together with cybercrime officers.

Bought weapons in Andorra

But the 22-year-old, his girlfriend and several accomplices were also involved in weapons smuggling: using fake weapons documents, the gang bought firearms in Andorra and brought them over impassable mountain roads to Catalonia.

The couple has so far remained silent about the allegations, the police said on Monday evening. The accomplices, who were also stopped by officers from the State Criminal Police Office, mostly confessed. According to the accomplices, the “boss” is said to have intimidated and put pressure on his helpers. In part, he also promised to pay her lawyer if the case were to happen. This promise did not help two of those involved in the crime: they have already been legally convicted.

Trial at the Linz Regional Court

The criminal organization surrounding the drug couple will soon have to answer to the Linz regional court. In total, more than 100 consumers and helpers were questioned in the case and reported to the Linz public prosecutor.

The police tracked down the 22-year-old in April 2023 during investigations against a 25-year-old dealer. On the accused’s cell phone, the officers found countless drug images, videos, photos of firearms and chats with the head of the gang.
