June 7th will be her last day working at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Melinda Gates wrote on X on Monday. “This decision was not easy for me.” She is very proud of the joint work at the foundation, but is also convinced that it is in very good condition and has outstanding managers.
She now wants to start something new, especially to support women and families, and has 12.5 billion dollars (around 11.5 billion euros) available for this purpose. Melinda and Bill Gates (68) divorced in 2021 after around 27 years of marriage, but initially continued their work together at the influential Gates Foundation. This is one of the world’s most important donors in the area of health care and development cooperation. The couple has three adult children – Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe.
Bill Gates, who founded the IT giant Microsoft together with Paul Allen in 1975, is considered one of the richest people in the world. Melinda Gates initially studied computer science and economics, and later completed a management degree. In the first decade of her career, she worked at Microsoft developing multimedia products.
