There were almost 200,000 fewer tests than were announced on December 25th. Eight deaths occurred within 24 hours. In Austria, 29,486 people are currently suffering from a SARS-CoV-2 infection, which is 1,119 fewer cases than the day before. Thus, the seven-day incidence decreased from 172.8 to 166.9 cases per 100,000 population. The federal state with the highest incidence is currently Vorarlberg with 262, followed by Tyrol with 259.6, Vienna with 175.5 and Carinthia with 174.7. Then come Lower Austria (148.3), Salzburg (145.7), Upper Austria (142.4), Styria (139.1) and Burgenland (118.6). In absolute numbers, Vienna ranks first with 394 new infections within 24 hours, followed by Lower Austria with 317, Tyrol with 262, Upper Austria with 211, Styria with 171, Vorarlberg with 124, Carinthia with 99, Salzburg with 93 and Burgenland with 46 Cases.
155 deaths in the past seven days
Eight people died from Saturday to Sunday or with Covid-19. On a seven-day average there were 22.1 deaths a day. 155 deaths have been recorded in the past seven days. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 13,634 deaths in Austria since it broke out.
There was a slight decrease in hospital occupancy. There are currently 1,206 patients with an infection in hospital, 17 fewer than the day before. 383 people had to be treated in intensive care. That number has decreased by seven since yesterday and has decreased by 96 patients in a week.
73.8 percent with at least one vaccination
3,870 people used Christmas Day to get vaccinated. According to the data in the e-vaccination pass, a total of 6,589,817 or 73.8 percent have already received at least one vaccination. 6,277,652 people and thus 70.3 percent of Austrians have valid vaccination protection. 3,537,858 people or 39.6 of the population have already received the third stitch.
Of the 3,870 vaccinations on Saturday, 426 were first stitches, that is 11.01 percent. 1,313 vaccinations were second stitches. Most of the vaccinations on Christmas Day were so-called boosters. 2,131 people received the refresher.
There were almost 200,000 fewer tests from Saturday to Sunday. A total of 320,030 rapid PCR and antigen tests were registered. Quite a few, namely 282,478, were meaningful PCR tests. The positive rate of the PCR tests was 0.6 percent, which is slightly above the average of the past seven days of 0.5 percent. More than 154 million corona tests have been carried out since the beginning of the pandemic.
There have been 1,264,553 confirmed cases since the disease broke out in Austria. 1,221,433 people have recovered from an infection.
