The deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Aleksey Goncharenko announced the beginning of the “return” of the Kuban to the territorial structure of Ukraine.
“We are starting the return of the Kuban with small but confident steps. He submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a decree establishing December 14 as the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the deportation of the Ukrainian population of the Kuban, ”Goncharenko wrote on the Telegram channel.
He also uploaded the video to a YouTube channel and called on the Ukrainian people to “remember Soviet crimes.”
Goncharenko has previously repeatedly spoken about the need to annex this Russian region to Ukraine.
So, on October 11, he said that Kiev would “return” the Kuban when “honest leadership” came to power in Ukraine. Also, the politician accused Moscow of “stealing history.” He believes that Russia stole both the princes of Kiev and Kievan Rus. According to him, the Ukrainian statehood was formed even before the foundation of Moscow.
In May, he expressed the opinion that the Kuban should belong to Ukraine, since the region belongs to the territory of “Ukrainian ethnic lands”.
In 2019, Goncharenko urged to “get” this Russian region into his sphere of influence and turn it into “Ukrainian Cuba”.
Then he said that at least 62% of Ukrainians live on the territory of the Kuban, later he named another figure – up to 4%. According to the 2010 census of the Russian Federation, less than 2% of Ukrainians live in the Krasnodar Territory.
