Spending Christmas away from home is the fate of numerous truck drivers who work for all of our lives all year round.
The Ebenseer association “Drivers for Children”, which usually supports families with disabled children, drew attention to itself on Christmas Day with a special campaign: Under the motto Drivers for Drivers, members of the association drove to Upper Austrian rest areas along the A1 to help them over Christmas To surprise “stranded” drivers with warm food, drinks, gifts such as hats and, above all, with the Christmas spirit. Homemade cookies and cakes were also distributed. This campaign was generously sponsored by companies such as Mercedes-Benz Trucks Austria, Getränke Steinrieser, Friends on the road, Bäckerei Reingruber Gmunden, Spedition R&W and Salinen Austria. Around 120 drivers were given presents in this way.
The driver for children association was founded in 2017 by chairman Christian Lahnsteiner and has around 20 members who all volunteer for a good cause in their free time. The guiding vision is “Together for small miracles”. The aim of the association is to support families with handicapped children who are in an emergency due to the situation and who otherwise receive little or no support.
