Investigators see vaccination fraud tourism in border areas

The Swabian South / West Police Headquarters in Kempten recently reported that in more than three quarters of the approximately 100 attempted fraud exposed in the Lindau district on Lake Constance, the accused lived outside Germany. In such cases, alleged evidence from German vaccination centers or medical practices is often presented, the LKA said. “This is why the procedure appears to be explainable, namely that German pharmacies close to the border are visited,” said an LKA spokesman. The entries in it supposedly came not only from the respective region, but from vaccination centers throughout Germany.

The LKA spokesman was just as unable to answer why vaccination fraudsters from Austria and Switzerland choose German pharmacies as their targets, as was a spokesman for the police headquarters in Kempten. However, there are indications of a trade in forged vaccination passports from Germany to neighboring countries. In the case of mail and courier trips, “extensive seizures of falsified vaccination certificates with entries from German vaccination centers or medical practices” have already taken place, the LKA announced.

Heavy fine against two Austrians

The police headquarters in Kempten announced that anyone caught attempting to commit fraud would face heavy fines. Even the attempt to get a certificate with a forged vaccination certificate is considered a criminal offense.

Last week, two women residing in Austria were caught fraudulent in a vaccination card in a pharmacy in Lindau. According to the police, they had to pay a security deposit “in the four-digit euro range” before they were allowed to leave for Austria. The two are now being investigated for forgery of documents.
