He Broad Front (FA) deputy for Lavalleja, Pablo Fuentesasked the national government for actions to avoid the closure of the industrial plant of Mines of National Beer Factories (FNC) and proposed modifying the Specific Internal Tax (Imesi) to boost competition.

The opposition legislator, who also criticized the lack of action by the departmental government, explained to the press that Minas is experiencing “a drama” with the closure of the plant, since “150 jobs are in danger of continuing.” “. The FNC claims that the market situation is “unsustainable” due to the imported beerswhose price would be “impossible to match.”

“We from the Industry Commission, and also from the Treasury, at the time, have made a minute that was voted on and signed by all political parties, to demand that the Ministry of Economy (MEF) to modify the Imesi to the beer and make it more competitive so that the final consumer of our country can access the product,” Fuentes noted.

However, the FA politician accuses that actions were lacking at the political level, since, as he understands, the national government did “absolutely nothing” to “correct” the current problem. “Last Friday we had this sad news that is affecting 150 families,” he recalled.

“It is a very hard blow to the departmental economy”

“It is a very hard blow to the departmental economy,” said Fuentes before adding: “It is a deficit that the economy of Minas Gerais will have of practically 5 million dollars annually.” Seasonal jobs must also be added to permanent jobs, as well as indirect activity.

“What is least surplus in the interior, and more in Minas, is the issue of work,” he lamented, as he observes a department that is “decreasing” at the population level, partly due to the lack of opportunities. “This also undoubtedly hits the coffers of the Intendance (from Lavalleja), because these families are paying their taxes and so on there,” he added.

For his part, the Mayor of Lavalleja, Mario Garcíabelonging to National Party (PN)held meetings with FCN, but according to sources “it is not enough” with this “simple will”, understanding that what is happening should be “stopped” with imports in order to “revitalize the national industry.”
