“The Austrian school system requires strong involvement of parents,” says Magdalena Danner from migrare. The ability of parents to actively support their children’s schooling has a significant impact on educational success. But many are unable to do this for various reasons.

This is where the “mama_stark” project comes in, which has been offering coaching and support for mothers with children between the ages of two and eight with migration backgrounds since the beginning of the year. These are looked after for between three and 15 months.
Get to know the children’s social space
There are three areas in particular: Firstly, mothers should get to know their children’s social environment, i.e. leisure and cultural activities, libraries and other things. The companions explain why these offers are beneficial for child development and help to break down inhibitions. Secondly, mothers learn their rights and responsibilities as they navigate the education system. Parents’ evenings, development discussions and school events should not be a cause for stress or misunderstandings. A third focus focuses on the intra-family bond between parents and children.
