Energy community from Waizenkirchen already has 200 members

The associations founded and run by Harald Geissler and Sieglinde Forster work with a focus on the common good. The benefit from the legally regulated possibility of exchanging renewable electricity directly between citizens remains 100 percent with the members themselves. Those who supply electricity currently receive 10 cents/kWh. Those who purchase electricity pay 11 cents/kWh and can also look forward to a reduction in network costs of around 1.7 cents/kWh. “Neither basic fees nor hidden service costs cloud the clear view of a decentralized future model by people for people,” says Geissler.

While the catchment area was initially limited to Waizenkirchen, it now extends to the entire supply area of the three substations Eferding, Grieskirchen and Ranna. Citizens, any small company (SME) and municipalities can take part. Registration is easy for electricity suppliers and consumers, can be done online and there is no need to deregister or re-register with your previous electricity supplier. The existing contracts remain valid for the required residual power supply.

In addition to the currently over 200 members of the private Waizenkirchen EEG, the community of Waizenkirchen and a pipe producer based there also trust this model. By establishing their own EEG, they have taken the distribution of their renewable electricity into their own hands and are now also benefiting from the associated economic advantages.

Management and billing are carried out using almost free software that was developed in another public interest project. There is therefore no upper limit to the admission of new members.
