China tightens restrictions on already confined Terracotta Warriors city

The city reported 155 new cases of coronavirus this Sunday, adding a total of 500 in recent weeks.

The number of cases increased alarmingly. Four days ago the number of cases was 52.

To stop the spread, the authorities claim to have tested the entire population in succession.

Some 29,000 people were isolated in hotels, He Wenquan, a senior official from Xi’an, told reporters, and “total” disinfection will begin today, the AFP news agency reported.

The restrictions have already been tightened: only one person can leave each home every three days to buy basic necessities.

Until now, it was possible to go out every other day.

China has been applying the “zero Covid” strategy for a year to limit the appearance of new cases as much as possible and increased vigilance to avoid a major outbreak before the Beijing Winter Olympics, which are held in February.

But sporadic pockets of coronavirus continue to emerge.

The country announced 206 new cases this Sunday, the highest number in a single day since March 2020.
