Why “willhaben” made the Ebensee Pentecost festival possible

The path was rocky. To visit a traditional wooden beer tent, the people of Ebensee had to go over the mountains. Every year more than 100 made their way from the south of Lake Traunsee to celebrate at the Altausseer Kiritog. There will be no exception this year either. However, there has been a warm-up program since last year. And that doesn’t need to shy away from comparison with Altaussee.

For the second time, the Roith Volunteer Fire Department is inviting people to the Whitsun Festival from Friday at 5 p.m. Very classic: without an amplifier, just with brass and folk music – and with a curious origin story. Because the wooden beer tent only found its place at the Ebensee event site in Trauneck via a detour. More precisely: via the Internet. “During our visits to Altaussee, we often thought that we needed something similar in Ebensee. When we were twelve friends sitting together one evening, one of us found an advertisement on the sales platform,” says Andreas Pfatschbacher, one of them by those “crazy people,” as he says, who had the idea of ​​a beer tent in Ebensee in their heads.

The old wooden beer bar tent, which had been set up in Mürzsteg in Styria for decades, was finally located in Oberwart in Burgenland. It was agreed not to disclose the transfer fee with the former owner. “We already have a charm, so it was almost a gift,” said Daniel Preiner in a television report on the premiere of the Pentecost festival last year.

It’s now “Ebensee’s big butcher” and it’s “worth a lot, we all know that. So it’s in the millions, in the billions.”

More than 200 volunteers are also working on the second edition; the proceeds from the event go exclusively to financing the Roith fire department’s operations, vehicles and equipment.

The program begins on Friday with the beer reception by boat, on Saturday there is a children’s afternoon with the Roith fire department and the Ebensee rural youth group, and on Sunday the morning pint follows from 10 a.m.
