Germany reached its goal of 30 million vaccinated people

Facing the wave of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, reported by South Africa last November and more contagious than the Delta, Lauterbach urged those who had done so to get vaccinated especially and stressed that the reinforcement campaign being developed in the country is probably the most aggressive in Europe.

“We are going to move on to the second phase; our aim is to continue the reinforcement campaign over the next few weeks at a speed so high thate that we can significantly reduce the number of hospital admissions due to the Omicron variant, “he added.

On Saturday, during the Christmas celebration, 35,000 vaccines were administered, 30,000 of them booster, while on Friday 67,000 were administered, of which 51,000 were extra doses, reported the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the government entity in charge of the control of infectious diseases.

However, the record for the vaccination campaign was registered on Wednesday 15, with 1.6 million doses.

The goal of administering 30 million doses before the end of the year was announced last November 18 by the Head of Government, the Chancellor Olaf Scholz, when he was still acting vice chancellor, but at that time he was referring exclusively to booster applications, and then he expanded it to all kinds of immunizations.

Until this sunday 70.8% of the total population was vaccinated. At least 58.9 million people had the full regimen, and some 29.9 million also had a booster dose.

The RKI also reported that in the last 24 hours, 10,100 new coronavirus infections and 88 deaths from the disease were reported, figures that raise the accumulated totals since the beginning of the pandemic to 6.99 million and 110,364, respectively.

Likewise, the incidence of infections accumulated in seven days fell again, from 242.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Saturday to 220.7 this Sunday.

Meanwhile, the police in various federal states were investigating thousands of cases related to false vaccination certificates offered by messaging applications or auction sites, the local daily Tageszeitung reported.
