As the police announced, the accident occurred on Wednesday around 1:45 p.m. in Leonding. It was a so-called “empty run” that a prospective Bim driver (34) completed as practice. The driving instructor sat next to him.
But suddenly a 13-year-old crossed the B139, which ran parallel to the tracks, and then crossed the tracks themselves, presumably in order to catch the next Bim in time.
The tram driver immediately applied the brakes, but a collision could no longer be prevented. The boy was thrown to the ground and injured.
A rescue helicopter was brought in to help. But the good news: The 13-year-old was only slightly injured. An emergency doctor was not necessary, an ambulance took the boy to a hospital in Linz.
