The game Dresden against Steyr at the unicycle tournament in the town hall

Anyone who has ever wanted to know how to ride on just one bike without falling over has the best opportunity to do so in the town hall. The Steyr Unicycling team from Askö Laufrad Steyr invites you to its 12th unicycle hockey tournament on the Pentecost weekend. Nine teams from Germany and Austria are taking part in this very special tournament, which will be played on Saturday, May 18th, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 19th, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The final games, including shows during the game breaks, take place on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Spectators are welcome with free entry.

Unicycling itself is not for everyone. But if you manage to keep your balance after a certain amount of time, you’ll really enjoy it. It becomes even more difficult to skillfully direct a small ball with a hockey stick on a unicycle and shoot it into a goal.

“It’s a very entertaining but physically intensive sport,” says Martin Pötz, player and official of the Steyr unicycle section, which was founded more than 15 years ago. The difficulty in hockey is making the many tight turns and not falling in a duel with your opponent. “But the sport is not as physical as ice hockey.”

The goals behind which the game continues are similar in size to those in ice hockey. The game is played by four field players and a goalie with a tennis ball. At the tournament in Steyr, a game lasts ten minutes. “And the main focus is on having fun,” says Pötz. “Men and women of all ages can play together on a team.”

“The Pentecost weekend is the ideal opportunity for everyone to get to know unicycling,” says organizer Theo Crazzolara. “You can learn to ride a unicycle at any age. We are a creative fringe sport and are happy to welcome interested spectators.”

By the way, the Steyr unicyclists will have their next appearance on Saturday, June 29th, at the Steyr city festival. Anyone interested in this sport can contact einrad@laufrad.cc by email.
