Strike against drug crime in Braunau: 20 dealers arrested

The drug gangs are accused of selling over 100 kilograms of drugs.
The police seized drugs with a street value of 125,000 euros.

20 people who are said to have sold more than 100 kilograms of drugs with a street value of more than two million euros were arrested. These include 17 people from a gang of Romanian origin and a trio of dealers and smugglers from Berlin and Braunau.

It all started with a perfume thief in the Braunau district. “During the course of investigations, we discovered that he also sold addictive substances in parks,” says Philip Gerner from the Braunau police. Surveillance in the summer of 2023 revealed that he was a low-level member of a criminal gang from central Romania.

In autumn 2023, the executive set up an “Aroma” working group, disclosed the entire structure of the network and identified all leading members of the drug gang, some of whom had serious criminal records.

Numerous shops in Ried, Braunau and Mattighofen

They stayed in a hotel in the Braunau district to carry out their criminal business. In addition to commercial theft, they made their living primarily from smuggling and trading marijuana, cannabis resin, chrystal meth and cocaine, which was smuggled by the kilo from Spain and the Czech Republic to the Innviertel and temporarily stored in bunker apartments in Ried and Braunau.
