Because the drug scene around the Kremplhaus in Linz is flexible and moves its activities to the tram and subsequently around the Herz-Jesu-Kirche stop depending on the police presence and intensity of surveillance (the OÖN have reported), the SPÖ and FPÖ are calling for countermeasures. Specifically, the two factions in the upcoming local council want to establish a protection zone including video surveillance around the Otto Glöckel School and the Sacred Heart Church.

State Police Directorate decides
A protection zone can be imposed by the state police headquarters and allows the police to turn people away on suspicion. The demands of the two Linz municipal council factions are also addressed to State Police Director Andreas Pilsl. City police commander Karl Pogutter appeared skeptical in an OÖN interview at the beginning of the year. The state police department would have to determine over a longer period of time whether the numbers would justify the imposition of a protection zone. “From my point of view, that is not the case at the moment,” said Pogutter in January. Hard drugs are the exception anyway; as in Kremplstrasse, the Sacred Heart Church is primarily concerned with marijuana.
