In the former drive-in of the Wels bakery Resch & Frisch, the US group Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) will open its 14th Austrian branch on Wednesday (10 a.m.): “With the latest design from a team of architects especially for Wels,” reveals KFC press spokeswoman Agnieszka Imsirovic responded to OÖN’s request.
The company is planning five new locations in Austria this year. Wels is the first, followed by Amstetten and other cities that KFC does not want to reveal yet. After Ansfelden and Plus-City in Pasching, Wels is only the third Upper Austria branch.
Coffee house was empty
The coffee house with a drive-in area, which had been empty for months, was an opportunity, says Imsirovic. “There will be 140 seats and a bar on Hans-Sachs-Straße.”
KFC was founded in 1940 in the US state of Kentucky by Colonel Sanders. His face is emblazoned on all packaging and billboards. KFC has more than 25,000 branches worldwide. The company is proud of its secret recipe, consisting of eleven selected herbs and spices. Hotness, spice and crunchiness vary from dish to dish. The Welser branch has a drive-in and a restaurant. In addition to breaded chicken, salads, fries and vegan strips are offered. A café was also integrated into the new branch. (fam)
