A motorcycle ride in the municipality of Gschwandt on Saturday afternoon claimed a fatality: A young man from the Gmunden district, who was traveling with two other bikers on the B120 from Scharnstein towards Gmunden, had lost control of his motorcycle for an unknown reason. In a left-hand bend he hit the guardrail and fell. Any help came too late for the 20-year-old. He died at the scene of the accident from his serious injuries.
B120 closed for hours
The B120 was closed to all traffic for around two and a half hours. The cleanup work was carried out by the local fire department. According to the police, it was probably a solo accident. It was said on Saturday evening that foul play could be ruled out. The road was dry at the time of the accident.
Third fatal accident this week
It was the third fatal motorcycle accident on Upper Austria’s roads within a week. Just on Wednesday, an 84-year-old motorcycle driver died in an accident in the Taiskirchen municipality (Ried im Innkreis district). On Sunday, a 53-year-old sustained fatal injuries in a head-on collision on the B38 near Vorderweißenbach.
