Five people between the ages of 25 and 53 celebrated merrily on a boat in Unterlandshaag (municipality of Feldkirchen an der Donau) on Sunday night. As the group tried to leave the boat via a floating jetty, one of the party guests fell into the water and had to be pulled out by the others.
On the way towards the shore, a woman lost sight of her partner. Fearing that he had also fallen into the Danube, she finally alerted the emergency services at around 11 p.m. However, due to heavy drinking and panic, the woman was unable to provide any further information about the man’s disappearance.
Several police patrols were on site with dogs. The Landshaag, Feldkirchen, Aschach and Zwettl an der Rodl fire departments were on duty with 120 helpers, and three paramedics also took part in the search.
Four boats and two boats were used to search for the missing person on the water, as the Landshaag fire department reports:
The missing man was eventually found on a boat on land. He was also very drunk. The fire brigades were able to end the operation on the Danube around one o’clock in the morning.
