He is a rebel, someone who defies habit, who polarizes: When it was launched in 2010, many comments were not exactly flattering for the Juke. Of course: the googly eyes, the whole face – “either you love him. Or you don’t!” Nissan Austria managing director Michael Kujus got to the heart of the tricky question of taste.
And yet: The Juke is the second best-selling Nissan model behind the Qashqai, in Austria and Europe, where, as is well known, the Navara pickup has been taken out of the range. Keyword: exhaust gas values. The Japanese have sold 10,600 Jukes since the market launch in Austria. A remarkable number for the small manufacturer.
Externally unchanged
The second generation followed in 2019, and Nissan is now introducing a facelift. Although the exterior remains unchanged, the Japanese were quite active underneath the metal.
Whereby: Stop, back up! Nissan is taking the once iconic yellow paint color out of the paint cabinet and choosing this bright color as the ambassador for the revised model. The yellow from Nissan! The Japanese also mixed two new colors: pearl white and metallic black.
In the interior, the bright yellow decorative stitching and the boomerang-shaped Alcantara inserts on the dashboard are immediately noticeable. Looks cool. The two 12.3-inch displays (previously 8 inches) are now standard, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be used wirelessly. Nissan’s own voice recognition received an update and the infotainment menu navigation was reorganized. Nissan also installs the electric parking brake as standard, and the reversing camera now provides a razor-sharp image – 1.3 instead of 0.3 million pixels.
The starting price was reduced by 5,000 euros to 23,990 euros.
The drives
Nissan offers two drives: a turbo three-cylinder with 84 kW (114 hp) and 200 Nm. And a hybrid drive with 105 kW (143 hp). A 1.6 liter four-cylinder contributes 69 kW (94 hp) and two electric motors deliver 15 kW (20 hp) and 36 kW (49 hp). The hybrid consumption in the city is up to 40 percent lower than that of the three-cylinder.
