The police officers became aware of the 26-year-old Romanian from the St. Johann im Pongau district on the A1 at 1 a.m. The man had exited the A7 onto the Westautobahn and was clearly traveling too fast. The officers followed him to Asten – by then they had measured a top speed of 220 km/h.
During the traffic stop it turned out that the man had not only drunk too much, but also did not have a valid driver’s license. He was also high and unfit to drive, as a medical officer would later determine.
