No fewer than three jury trials for the crime of re-engagement (Section 3g of the Prohibition Act) will take place this Tuesday in the jury room of the Ried Regional Court. The trial against a man from Berlin, scheduled for Tuesday, May 21st at 10:15 a.m., promises to be explosive. On April 20, 2021, on Adolf Hitler’s birthday, the German is said to have laid a funeral wreath in front of the Hitler House in Braunau, the OÖN reported on this in January. On that day, the documentary “Who is afraid of Braunau” was filmed in Braunau. The defendant even appears in this film. “Have you put that down now,” the previously blameless German is asked in the film. The man openly admits that he admires Hitler. A black wreath mourning ribbon read: “RIP-USA”: “Rest in Peace”, the defendant himself revealed the abbreviation USA in the documentary: “Our Blessed Adolf”.

“The accused’s sole aim was to glorify Adolf Hitler and to attract public attention by laying a wreath,” said Alois Ebner, spokesman for the Ried public prosecutor’s office, to the OÖN in January. There is apparently further proof of this attitude: According to this, the Berliner is said to have traveled to Braunau in a car on Hitler’s birthday. The desired license plate: “B-DF 1889”. The public prosecutor’s office assumes that the abbreviation DF stands for “German Leader”. 1889 is the year Hitler was born. It will be interesting to see whether the accused will appear at the trial. If this is not the case, the defendant could subsequently face extradition from Germany to Austria. If convicted by a jury, the Berliner could face between one and ten years in prison. It is the presumption of innocence.
