The alpinist started around 10:30 a.m. from the Goisererhütte parking lot for a hike over the “Tiefe Scharte”, to the “Niederen Kalmberg” and finally to the “Hohen Kalmberg”. The apparently experienced mountain tourer chose the challenging route and managed it up to the last climb between the so-called “Brenntenkogel” and the “Niederen Kalmberg”.

There the path runs partly exposed uphill. The German may have slipped and, according to his own statements, was just able to hold on and avoid falling. Because he had cramps in his thighs and the weather was getting increasingly worse, the alpinist decided to stop his tour at 3 p.m. and alert the emergency services via an emergency call. He was able to be flown uninjured into the valley in the “Libelle Sierra” air police helicopter using rope.

Location: Goisererhütte
