Delegations paused last week after several days of “tough and intense” negotiations according to Tehran, but where progress was made on technical issues.
“Today opens a new cycle of negotiations. The issue of guarantees and verification” of the lifting of US sanctions if Washington returns to the agreement “are on the agenda,” said the Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister, quoted by the Iranian official press agency IRNA.
“The most important thing for us is to reach a point where we can verify that Iranian oil is sold easily and without limits, that oil money reaches bank accounts in Iran in foreign currency, and that we can benefit from all the income in the different economic scenarios“added Hussein Amir-Abdollahian
Iranian Foreign Affairs spokesman Said Khatibzadeh advised “all participants in the negotiations to come to Vienna with the will to achieve a good agreement”, as Iran refuses to “waste time and energy.”
The delegations of Iran and the member countries of the 2015 agreement (Russia, China, United Kingdom, France and Germany) will meet at 17:00 GMT (14 Argentine time), according to a source close to the dossier. The United States participates indirectly.
The agreement gave Tehran the lifting of a part of the sanctions that suffocate its economy in exchange for a drastic reduction of its nuclear program, under strict control of the UN.
The 2015 pact fell apart after Washington’s withdrawal in 2018 under the administration of Donald Trump.
In response to the reestablishment of sanctions against it, Iran, which denies wanting to develop the atomic weapon, has gradually freed itself from the limitations imposed on its nuclear program.
