The March of Silence brought together thousands of people who demanded answers from the State

The 29th edition of the March of Silence organized by the NGO Relatives of Mothers and Relatives of Disappeared Detainees brought together thousands of people who moved from Jackson and Rivera streets to Cagancha Plaza, to demand answers from the State and cry out for “memory, truth and justice.”

The initiative that has taken place since 1996, brought together thousands of people this Monday under the motto: “They know where they are. We demand answers. Never again state terrorism. Memory, truth and justice.”

Ignacio Errandonea, representative of Relatives, explained in Underlined that they have been working “for many years” and, however, “they have not obtained answers.” “There has to be an order from the Executive power so that the Armed forces hand over the information. How long are we going to continue marching, demanding the truth about what happened to our relatives?” he asked.

For her part, another member of Familiares, Graciela Montes de Oca, told the same media that he could “feel the human warmth” of the protesters and the feeling that “they are walking along a good path.” “More and more groups are joining, we have seen a lot of progress in the area of sports, the clubs have opened the door so that we can inform what this march is about,” he added.

Despite popular support, Montes de Oca stressed that there are still no answers from the National Armyas well as from the State.

“We always have the feeling that we missed a lot,” said José Mujica.

He former president of the Republic, José Mujicawho was present at the march, pointed out that within the Broad Front (FA) “There is always the feeling that a lot was missing.”

“It creates contradictions for us. I do not have a feeling of resentment, I am too old to feel resentment. I have a feeling that society wants to know the true truth. True justice is the truth,” he concluded.

Mujica had been criticized this Monday by his own sister-in-law, the former member of the National Liberation Movement-Tupamaros (MLN-T), María Topolanskysister of the former vice president of the Republic, Lucía Topolanskywho was also a member of the MLN-T.

At a press conference, Topolansky said: “They were also wrong, beyond the fact that my sister is vice president and he is my brother-in-law, I separate the family aspect, they did not go to the depth of the bone, we have not had an absolute demand to obtain (the information)”, he indicated.
