An argument with a fellow countryman (29) ended up in the hospital for a 53-year-old North Macedonian on the public holiday: the two men clashed in a bar on Wiener Straße in Linz around 2:45 p.m. The background to the altercation was still the subject of investigations on Tuesday. The dispute escalated to the point where the younger man stabbed his opponent at least once in the back with a pair of scissors.

The 53-year-old was treated on site by rescue workers and taken to a hospital. His condition was described as stable on Tuesday and an interview had already been possible, the police said in response to OÖN’s request.

The perpetrator was arrested after a brief escape and taken to the Linz police detention center. He stated that the 53-year-old wanted to attack him with a knife, which is why he grabbed the scissors and stabbed him. The murder weapon was seized and the police investigation is ongoing. The public prosecutor’s office ordered a release to appear, police said on Tuesday afternoon.
