Tennis festival without a happy ending: UTC remained winless

Everything was set up for a big tennis festival at the new UTC Casa Moda Steyr facility. 250 spectators watched high-class games in great weather. The team around the brothers Simon and Dominik Traxler fought hard against the big favorites from Mauthausen, but in the end it wasn’t enough to win points.

Mauthausen won the derby 9-0 and thus secured a ticket to the semi-finals of the 1st Tennis Bundesliga. For the Steyr team, it’s all about a good starting position in the relegation playoff on Saturday in Dornbirn and next week at home against Anif.

The performance against Mauthausen makes the UTC cracks optimistic. Simon Traxler came close to a sensation against the German Mats Moraing (still number 115 in the world rankings in 2022), leading 6:2 and 4:2 before he was narrowly defeated 6:7 (8:10).

In addition to Mauthausen, the big winner was the UTC club canteen. 110 liters of beer, 150 chops and 20 kilograms of potato salad were sold during the match day.
