Retired educators and helpers from childcare facilities in Traun will receive a letter from the city of Traun in the coming weeks in January. The content is not commonplace: Because the letters ask the addressees to consider whether they want to return to their old job a little.
The reason for this type of recruiting campaign are staff shortages in the city’s facilities. “There is almost no kindergarten where someone is not missing,” says the Mayor of Traun, Karl-Heinz Koll (VP), in an interview with OÖN. The city chief locates the pay of employees as one reason for the shortage of staff.
There are a total of ten municipal kindergartens in Traun. The situation is tense not only there, but also in the after-school facilities. That is why some of the childcare facilities for community service are to be certified so that they can also be used there. At least that’s the plan for once. So bad that in the event of an unsuccessful search for personnel, groups would have to be merged or closed, even if it wasn’t, Koll reassured him: “In principle, the situation is not that bad, but warning lights are on, we now have to take countermeasures quickly.”
This applies to the care facilities as well as to urban planning considerations. “It doesn’t help if we have a lot of apartments and a large population, but the infrastructure doesn’t fit,” said the mayor. And that would not only include buildings for childcare facilities, but also the necessary staff.
