Aurtorize in the US to halve the isolation for those infected with Covid and close contacts

The measure was also adopted due to the meteoric increase in cases that the United States is suffering, caused by the Omicron variant, the CDC said in a statement.

Recent research indicates that the variant causes less severe clinical conditions than previous ones.

But the staggering number of people it infects – and therefore has to isolate themselves – threatens to crush the ability of hospitals, airlines, factories and businesses to continue operating, experts say.

Last week, the CDC had shortened the 10-day period a healthcare worker had to be in isolation if they tested positive for coronavirus.

The agency had recommended that these workers return to their jobs after seven days of isolation, if they tested negative and had no symptoms. And he even said that the quarantine could last five days, or even less, in case of serious shortage of medical personnel.

Now, the CDC has changed the isolation rules for everyone in the country, although it is a recommendation, not an order, for employers and state and municipal officials, CNN reported.

In the case of an infected person, after five days of isolation, instead of the ten that had been in force until now, they will be able to resume their face-to-face activities but wearing a mask everywhere, including at home, at least another five.

If after five days you still have symptoms, you should stay home until you feel better and then wear a mask for five days at all times and places, according to the CDC statement.

For close contacts without a full vaccination schedule, the CDC’s recommendation so far was home isolation for at least 10 days.

Now, the agency said that only close contacts who have already given a third booster dose will be able to skip the quarantine if they wear a mask everywhere for at least 10 days.

That changes the rules, because, until now, those who had two doses of a two-dose vaccine or one of a single dose could be exempted from quarantine.

With the new recommendation, close contacts who completed their schedule but did not receive a booster remain in the same situation as partially vaccinated or unvaccinated ones: they can stop quarantining after five days if they wear a mask for another five days after isolation.
