The Straßwalchner farmer Andreas Badinger is a board member of the organic hay region Trumer Seenland, Mondseeland and Mattigtal. He not only creates biotopes on his organic hay milk farm, but also passes on his knowledge. He has now been selected as one of five Austrian ambassadors for biodiversity and biodiversity.
The company in Hüttenedt is now in its sixth generation. Andereas Badinger took over the family business in 2005 and is still actively supported by his mother. In addition to the production of organic hay milk, Badinger also relies on the direct marketing of stored vegetables such as potatoes, onions and carrots.
He is the only farmer in the area who grows vegetables. But he is not only doing pioneering work in this regard: with his flower strips and fields, which he creates along field paths and between fields and grassland, he does not only attract attention in the animal kingdom. Numerous bumblebees, wild bees and grasshoppers find a suitable habitat there. “In the meantime, word has got around in the area and people now understand why I am putting on these strips,” he sees a rethink in society.
When he mows his flower strips and Raine, he makes sure that something always remains. This staggered mowing of the strips entails significantly more work, but for the committed farmer the advantages for diversity are decisive: “In our area there are actually no more landscape elements that would serve as a retreat for the insects. With my different strips I create natural structures in an intensely cultivated landscape. “
The farmer from Straßwalch stands out with his biodiversity measures in an area that is used intensively for agriculture. He was therefore elected one of five “Farming for Nature” ambassadors in 2021. “With this project we want to give a loud voice to those farmers who harmonize modern agriculture with nature conservation,” says Wolfgang Suske, project manager for “Farming for Nature Austria”. Until January 15th on the project website www.farmingfornature.at be voted for the favorite story – and pioneers like Badinger can be honored in this way.
