At a press conference after a campaign tour in Lavalleja, Delgado was consulted about the recent resignation of the president of the Board of Directors of the National Party, Pablo Iturralde, after some controversial chats that he exchanged in March of last year with Gustavo Penadés —when the first complaint against the former senator for abuse and exploitation of minors had just fallen—; in which he pointed out to the prosecutor Alicia Ghione as a “friend” and talked about putting pressure on the Attorney General Juan Gomez.
“I just spoke with the president of the Board of Directors of the National Party and has just communicated the decision to resign,” he said. Slim and added that “it is an attitude that I especially value, I have known Pablo Iturralde a lot, for many years.”

Orsi’s early reaction
The candidate for Broad Front, Yamandú Orsiwas the first to react to the resignation of Pablo Iturralde and he assured that it seemed like the best decision. On the other hand, he asked that the case be investigated, in addition to questioning whether the political system has any influence on the judicial system.
“It is the least that could be expected from the disclosure of a conversation that compromises a party and an entire government effort,” Orsi said at a press conference in Cologne. Regarding the fact that he referred to the prosecutor Ghione as a “friend,” Orsi said she found “out of place.” “It does not apply, but the worst of all is that there remains the suspicion that someone could have been an operator,” she stressed.
In that sense, he insisted on the need for further investigation. “There have to be explanations from other institutions regarding the scope of the political actions on judicial institutions,” he claimed. The pre-candidate admitted that all prosecutors have their political preferences and “more Uruguay where everyone knows each other”, but he insisted on the fact that politics cannot try to operate to distort a decision.
