Iturralde denied having pressured Justice
After having resigned from his position and published it on his social networks, the now former president of the National Party published a letter in which he claims not to have influenced Justice from political power and highlighting that he asked the Prosecutor’s Office that it be investigated to reach the truth.
“The news that I had some kind of influence on the appointment of the prosecutor in the case of former Senator Penadés is absolutely false. Throughout my political career I have defended in all instances the institutions of the Republic, the Rule of Law and the independence of Justice and this has not been the exception,” he says in the letter.

“The facts are eloquent regarding what Justice acted in a professional and independent manner, denying any false accusation based on capricious interpretations disconnected from reality,” he adds.
In that sense, in the statement Iturralde assures that he asked the Prosecutor’s Office to be investigated. “This morning I asked the Prosecutor’s Office to initiate an ex officio investigation with the aim of clarifying the facts so that there is no doubt about this episode,” the letter explains.
