No one was injured in the fire, and the owners were able to escape outside in time. However, the house and an attached car repair shop were completely destroyed by the fire. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the extent of the damage is currently unknown.
The first fire brigades were alerted at around 9:50 p.m. Due to the difficulty of supplying fire-fighting water on site, the head of operations declared the highest alarm level 4 after just a few minutes. “When we arrived, the building was already fully ablaze,” said Göminger local fire brigade commander Alfred Stummvoll. “Not only were machines and vehicles stored in the workshop, but also several gas bottles, one of which had burst.”
Neighbours helped with slurry tanks
Not only did the firefighters have to proceed with extreme caution, but water pipes were also laid to two fire ponds 400 and 700 metres away and a shuttle service with tank fire engines was set up to get water to the fire site. Neighbouring farmers also supported the fire-fighting efforts by bringing slurry tanks.
At around 3 a.m. the fire was finally declared out, but the fire service’s clean-up work is expected to continue well into Friday. In total, over 200 firefighters were deployed to get the fire under control.
