The Aprilia rider won the short twelve-lap race on Saturday ahead of superstar Marc Marquez (Ducati), who started from 14th place, and KTM top talent Pedro Acosta. World Championship leader Jorge Martin finished fourth and benefited from the fact that defending champion and pursuer Francesco Bagnaia crashed while in the lead on the last lap.
Raul Fernandez (Aprilia) and KTM rider Brad Binder had previously led the race, but both, like Bagnaia, slid into the gravel without any outside influence. Birthday boy Acosta was also in the lead at one point, but the now 20-year-old had to settle for third place in the end. Aleix Espargaro, who announced this week that he would be retiring at the end of the season, secured pole position with a lap record. The main race will take place on Sunday (2 p.m./live ServusTV, Sky).
