During construction work in a single-family home, a resident is said to have grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked two workers. The injured victims escaped from the house. The attacker barricaded himself in the building until the Cobra task force was able to overpower him with a taser, Vorarlberg police said.
32-year-old barricaded himself
The two tradesmen, aged 29 and 53, were working in the house at around 11:50 a.m. when they were attacked by the 32-year-old resident for reasons that are currently unknown. The two injured workers were able to escape and found safety in front of the house. The attacker was initially overpowered by his father, who also lived in the house. However, the 32-year-old later regained possession of the knife and barricaded himself in the building.
The man was injured when he was arrested by the Cobra task force, but it was unclear whether this was due to the use of a taser or a fall during the arrest, according to police spokesman Fabian Marchetti. The two workers and the suspected perpetrator were taken to different hospitals, with the 32-year-old under police guard.
Victim not in danger of death
“The health of both victims is stable. Their lives are not in danger,” said the police in a statement later in the afternoon. Evidence collection and witness interviews were still ongoing. As soon as the suspected perpetrator is able to be questioned, the man will be questioned. The State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation.
