The man is said to have had a sexual relationship with a twelve-year-old girl before his time at the police academy. He admitted this before the jury court, but all of the acts were consensual, which the girl also underlined in her statements.

The two had met through a youth organization, where he, then 23, acted as a supervisor. She was twelve years old at the time, the prosecutor said in her opening statement. They then communicated via a messenger service and became friends. Over time, the defendant also directed the communication to a sexual level. After that, the two met in person and he offered her tutoring. This led to the first physical contact and when the girl turned 13, the relationship between the two intensified further.
“They both planned it that way”
At the end of 2018, the two had sexual intercourse for the first time: “They both planned it that way, when she was ready,” the prosecutor explained. Thus, the sex then and the many subsequent times were voluntary on the part of the girl, but “the law protects” girls and boys from it, because under the age of 14 they are not mature enough to do so, explained the prosecutor. Therefore, a punishment cannot be lifted because it was voluntary.
In addition to the serious sexual abuse, the man is also charged with abuse of a position of authority and possession of images of child abuse. He had made and possessed videos of sex with the girl.
“Head over heels in love with her”
The defendant’s defense attorney said that her client did not fit the image of a classic pedophile who tries to cover up his crimes. It was a “love affair” and he was “head over heels in love with her.” The girl seemed very “mature and sexually open” to him. “He saw her as an equal and not as someone in need of protection,” explained the man’s attorney. She pointed out that her client’s entire career as a police officer was at stake and asked for leniency in her opening statement.
The public was excluded from the hearing for the questioning of the accused and the girl because of the highly personal nature of the matters discussed. A verdict was expected in the early afternoon.
