They are looking for the man who threatened a 60-year-old tobacconist in Altheim at gunpoint and demanded cash. The whole thing happened in the middle of the day – Friday around 11 a.m. – on Mühlheimerstrasse, OÖNachrichten reported. The perpetrator fled with the loot in an unknown direction. According to the police, the employee suffered a shock, but was able to alert the emergency services.
They immediately launched a large-scale manhunt, with numerous patrols, special units, police dogs and a police helicopter searching for the perpetrator – but so far without success.
“Of course the talk of the town”
There was a lot of excitement in the small town of Altheim, which has a population of around 5,000, but there was no fear, says FP mayor Harald Huber. “Of course the incident was the talk of the town,” he says. Unfortunately, robberies like this happen more often, but not in Altheim, says the mayor, who is also a police officer.
The Altheim residents and those who were in the city or the region shortly before noon on Friday are now particularly called upon: the police are looking for a 20 to 25-year-old man who is between 1.75 and 1.80 meters tall and slim. At the time of the crime, he was wearing tight-fitting, long, black clothing and a black head covering. He covered his face with a black fabric mask during the robbery.
The WKO is offering a reward of 1,000 euros for information on the perpetrator.
