Ukraine’s attempts to join NATO will not bring results, since the only possible option for the country’s development is the Confucian policy of three refusals, Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Lazarev is sure. He stated this on December 27 on the air of the local TV channel “Nash”.
“Ukraine will not join NATO, and all these aspirations are futile. I have been saying for a long time that Ukraine has one possible option for the development of statehood and communications with all blocs and alliances – this is the Confucian model of golden harmony, which was previously in service in China. This is a policy of three refusals – refusal from excessive rapprochement, from excessive confrontation and from encroachments on other people’s zones of influence. Only with this policy will we be able to develop and have high-tech cooperation with promising economic zones, ”he explained his position.
Lazarev noted that the diplomatic position of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the country’s accession to NATO will also end in nothing.
On December 21, the President of Ukraine said that the country’s authorities want to hear specific dates for the state’s entry into NATO. He mentioned the country’s aspiration to resolve the conflict in Donbass as soon as possible, return Crimea and achieve EU membership.
On December 16, Zelenskiy pointed out that for many years Ukraine has seen itself in NATO. At the same time, the Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg supports Ukraine on the issue of arms purchases, but NATO member states do not have a unified position on the issue of military assistance to the state.

In February 2019, parliament adopted amendments to the constitution, securing the country’s course towards the EU and NATO.
