The world premiere is planned for 2027, and the vehicle will be offered in the price range of around 20,000 euros, as Europe’s largest carmaker announced on Tuesday after a board meeting.

The vehicle will be manufactured in Europe. “This is a clear commitment to Europe as an industrial location,” said CEO Oliver Blume, according to the statement. “It’s about entry-level electric mobility from Europe for Europe.” VW has not yet named a specific production location.

“Electromobility for all”

“For electromobility to become widespread, attractive vehicles are needed, especially in the entry-level segment,” said the head of the core Volkswagen brand, Thomas Schäfer. “Our brand promise is: electromobility for everyone. This promise is now being fulfilled in the Core brand group.”

It was initially unclear which model it was from the Core brand group, which includes the core brand VW as well as Škoda, Seat and Cupra. In March, Schäfer announced a small car for 20,000 euros that would come onto the market in 2027.

According to “Business Insider”, the small car will be called VW ID. 1 and will compete against the emerging electric car competition from China. At the same time, a technically related Skoda will build on the success of the now discontinued small car Citigo.
