Russian Foreign Ministry rejected the possibility of returning to the “Iron Curtain” in relations with the West

Russia does not intend to return to the “iron curtain” in relations with the West. This was announced on Tuesday, December 28, by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova in an interview with the BelRos TV channel.

“And what are they going to build at home, our Western partners, (unknown. – Ed.)”, – thus Zakharova answered the question of what steps other countries can take.

On the eve of the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov said that “it is impossible to tolerate” the idea of Western states that in relations with Moscow “everything should continue to go as usual.”

Ryabkov also did not rule out the threat of a new missile crisis. To prevent a situation similar to the Cuban missile crisis, the deputy minister suggested using political and diplomatic means.

A number of countries have approached the line beyond which diplomacy will be less applicable due to tensions in international politics, Ryabkov said. The high-ranking diplomat noted that the situation can be regulated with the help of Russia’s proposals on security guarantees.

Moscow and Washington may hold talks on this topic on January 10, Ryabkov also pointed out. The deputy minister clarified that there is no final agreement on the dates of the talks.

On December 27, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced its readiness to begin negotiations with the North Atlantic Alliance on security guarantees.

On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. According to the documents, the alliance should abandon any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia.
