The prices of products for the domestic market had a variation of 0.92%

He Producer Price Index of National Products (IPPN) It had a monthly variation of 0.92% in May, while in the accumulated annual variation this was 3.88% and at an interannual level (since May 2023) it experienced a negative 1.59%.

The data is derived from the main results of the latest technical bulletin prepared by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) for the IPPN in the month of May. The General Index, for its part, was established at 278.99.

In May 2023, the index number was higher: 283.50; while the monthly variation with respect to April of that year was negative by 1.36%. At this same point, in 2023, the accumulated variation was 3.19%, but the year-on-year variation had fallen to 9.04%.

Main factors influencing May prices

In addition to the quote for interbank dollarwhich remained stable between both months, the main factors of the positive variation were the increase in costs in the division “Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting and Forestry” and in that of “Manufacturing industry”.

In “Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting and Forestry” the monthly variation was 2.83%, with an impact of 0.92 percentage points (pp) on the General Index, while in “Manufacturing Industry” the variation in May was only 0.01%, representing a minor impact on the total.

In the breakdown, the prices of the “Crops in general” section had a jump of 11.22%, those of “Forestry, wood extraction and related services” a jump of 0.73% and those of animal husbandry fell 1 .83%.

On the other hand, the division “Fishing” presented a negative monthly variation of 0.04% and the “Mining and Quarrying” a positive one of 0.46% in May, both with an insignificant or null impact on the General Index.
