The Montevideo Electoral Boarddependence on Electoral Courthas already authorized more than 200 lists for the internal elections and according to its president, Mary Lopezthe state agency still hopes to reach approval of 400 in total.
Interviewed by Telemundo, López explained that the Electoral Board checks that the sheets of the political parties “comply with the regulations and laws” established, especially Law No. 7,812, also known as the Election Law, in order to “not confuse the citizen”.
“We review all of that. In many cases we observe some of the issues, then the (political) group has to fix that element (and) then it comes back,” said the leader.
Likewise, he indicated that “when the Electoral Board decides that they are ready to publish, they are published for 48 hours and are in galleries so that any person or any party can come,” he continued.
“Let voters bring their voting sheet”
At this time, the Montevideo Electoral Board continues an intense task to approve the more than 200 remaining lists submitted by the different political parties.
In that sense, López urged voters to bring their own voting sheet, since the number of lists makes it very difficult for all of them to coexist at the voting station.
“We suggest that voters please bring their voting sheet, because due to the amount it is likely that they will not find it in the secret room,” he pointed out.
The controversy over Carolina Ache’s list
In the last hours, the presidential candidate of the Colorado Party (PC), Carolina Achewas involved in a controversy over the design of the list that it presented to the Electoral Court.
The ballot from list 919 led by the former vice chancellor showed her name in a font larger than that of her surname and on the colors red, blue and white, traditionally associated with the Broad Front (FA).
“The ‘controversy’ list has the same colors as the most voted lists of the Colorado Party in past elections and the version that circulated was not the definitive one,” Ache reacted on his X account (formerly Twitter), in reference to the group Let’s go uruguayFounded by Pedro Bordaberry.
“It is the first list in the history of the Colorado Party with a woman as a pre-candidate. It would seem that this went unnoticed,” said the pre-candidate.
