The comrades of the Schildorn volunteer fire brigade are holding the district fire brigade festival from June 14th to 16th this year. Preparations for the three-day event have been underway for a year. To ensure that the festival runs smoothly, the firefighters also rely on the support of other organizations. Local clubs such as the music club, the rural youth group, the theater group and the soccer club have pledged their support. But it is not just the clubs that are lending a helping hand to the firefighters; the Schildorn population is too.
Everyone helps
“We went from house to house and informed the residents about the importance of the festival. The majority agreed to support us. We are very grateful for that,” says Christoph Meingassner from the twelve-person organizing team. Meingassner also thanks regional companies that support the Schildorn fire department financially. “It is nice to see that there is a willingness to help our fire department financially. The companies are aware of the importance of our organization,” says Meingassner.
Commander injured
The strength of solidarity among the Schildorn firefighters was evident at Christmas last year. In the middle of preparations for the district fire brigade festival, the Schildorn firefighters had to cope with a heavy blow. Their commander, Thomas Schrattenecker, was seriously injured on December 23rd during a mission and was out of action for an indefinite period. Despite the commander’s injury, there was never any question of cancelling the event. “Of course it was a heavy blow for us. Thomas pulled the strings. He was in charge of the organization. But we really wanted to get the festival off the ground,” says Meingassner. The commander is now well again. He is grateful and proud that his colleagues did not lose their nerve during the difficult times. “They did a great job while I was away. I am really proud of them,” says Schrattenecker.
Diverse supporting programme
The fire brigade festival starts on Friday at 8 p.m. with a performance by the Lifebrothers in the marquee next to the music hall. On Saturday, from 10 a.m., the district competition takes place on the SV Schildorn sports field.
New competition group
A competition group from the Schildorn fire department will also be taking part. “We haven’t had a competition group for a few years. We are particularly pleased that we will be putting together a team this year,” says the commander. The award ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m. This will be followed by a performance by the Holzblechmusi in the festival tent. The festival will end on Sunday. After the guest fire departments and guests of honor have been welcomed, the blessing of the Schildorn fire department’s new emergency vehicle will take place at 9:30 a.m. After this, everyone will be invited to a morning pint. This will be accompanied by music from the Schildorn traditional costume band. A pellet stove will also be auctioned off on Sunday among all visitors present.
